I forgot

I forgot where I live and its proximity to Louisiana. I also forgot that I spent a year of college in Louisiana. A year there is enough time to let their music and culture seep into you…even an East Coast girl like me. People passing me on the highway this morning; however would think I was a Louisiana native. Being the second year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, one of the morning radio dj’s spun a New Orleans mix this morning and I completely lost my mind. Somethings don’t fade, even after 10 years has passed. I do remember where every song having a dance to it came from now…lol

Feudin’

If it’s true that 50 Cent will retire if Kanye outsells him in September, I’ll personally buy a Kanye album, and I’m not a Kayne fan. But if it will shut 50 Cent down, it’s a worthwhile investment!

I have very primary, and not quite founded optimistic outlook about what could come from this feud. If what is being said about the two albums is true, then Kanye’s album is a more conscious album than his past albums and certainly doesn’t compare to 50 Cent’s SSDD album. Kanye’s is being predicted as likely to be well received by the public, unlike many conscious albums before his. So if his name can push a more conscious type of music out in the spotlight and introduce something “new” (although we all know it is by no means “new”) by all means, I back it. I despise his arrogance, but if he’s the means to the end, I’m all for it. It’s being said that 50’s album is his same predictable garbage. I pray that this feud results in a major stepping stone towards a better day for hip hop.

Whirlwind

The past 11 days have been just go go go for me. I’m still in recovery, but it’s all been worth it.

I realized 2 weeks ago that it was in my best interest to go get my belongings from Atlanta rather than have them shipped. Basically, it was much more cost effective. The bonus was that the weekend that I needed to go was also the weekend of the ASB Anniversary party. I couldn’t have asked for better timing. So I decided I was going to ‘sneak’ into town on Friday and surprise most of my friends at the party the next evening. Twin knew of course and Unk knew, but those are the only people I told AND I specifically asked Twin not to say anything to anyone. And she did a great job of that…in fact too great of a job. Her silence turned into her having to out and out lie in some cases, or at least be elusive; two things that are not at all Twin-like personality traits. Needless to say, Neezie, E, and Smoochie figured out that I was coming in. In any event, it was great being back home and with the fam, and as always we had a great event.

Then there was the drive back Monday morning. This drive was not at all like the first drive. On the upside, I had air conditioning this time and I didn’t blow out a tire. The rest of the trip was not so fun. Driving a 15 foot Budget truck is not my next career move. It drove just fine, but just being up that high, especially going over the gazillion bridges between Atlanta and Houston gave me an extreme case of carsickness. Plus just having to be that cautious of a driver with that much of a vehicle, didn’t help. And I got detoured in Lake Charles, LA because of a highway closure on I10. Fortunately it was right at a section that loops the city and put me right back on I10, but still cost me about 30 minutes. In any event, I got back safe and sound and got my belongings into storage the next day.

Why storage, you may ask? Well that would be because of timing. The truck was due back no later than that Thursday morning, the house was ready on that Thursday also, I got paid on Wednesday which all would have worked out fine except, I was due to fly to Omaha Wednesday morning for work and not return until Thursday evening. There was absolutely no way to coordinate everything to get my belongings in the house before I left and I wasn’t going to try and rush and get stuck in a time or financial bind. So I decided to put off moving in until the 15th to have every single duck in a row.

Which pushed into Twin’s visit that Friday through Monday. Yes, Diamond and HotPants have done Houston! It was actually a tame weekend in comparison to our usual high-jinks. When she got in Friday night we hit the Shy Bar and partied to the live band. I’d been there on my first visit here and loved them, and knew they were right up her alley. I was right, she had a ball and I was happy. Saturday we were a little more laid back; we had a great brunch, and I managed to get her to try something that I’m amazed I even tried much less her (I’m sure she’ll blog about it…lol) and then we did some shopping. Shoes should not be as cute AND inexpensive as we got them! :D Sunday, we did brunch again and somehow managed to get a little tipsy. I have no idea how those bellinis and jello shots got in front of us…lol Then it was off to the horse park to check out the horse races. We won $71 on our very first bet! But then that was the end of that lucky streak. But it was just enough to plan on eating and drinking later it the day. From there we headed over to Jones Plaza for the International Jazz Festival. We were excited about seeing Anthony David and Eric Roberson. We didn’t know who Terisa Griffin was, but she made sure we did by the end of her show. Although she opened it up a little too slowly, her overall performance was really good, and she’s a fantastic singer. Twin picked up her cd and got it signed before we left. Eric Roberson was…well he was Eric Roberson. Another amazing show and I was so upset when it was over; I wanted more. After the show, I went over to Anthony David and took a picture with him (on my own, without prompting *Smoochie!*) The festival ran way later than I’d expected and the wine bar we had planned to go to after the show was closed, so we headed back to the hotel to pack up. I took her to the airport at God’s hour in the morning..ok it was 4:00Am but still too damn early, and went back to the hotel to sleep for another hour and a half. Needless to say, by about 2:30 that afternoon I was deliriously tired.

S now on Wednesday, I am almost recovered but I could still use one more night of really, really good sleep. And outside of that, I’m REALLY ready for my baby to come home. We’re gonna kick it hard that weekend, so I’ll be tired all over again. Ahh I guess I’ll sleep when I’m dead…lol
